Just as in New England, where 17 Angel groups regularly meet to collaborate and build relationships, and in the Pacific Northwest, there is now a movement in the southern Great Lakes region to convene Angel investors and groups. On Wednesday, April 27th, 2011 from 3 to 7 p.m.(a week from tomorrow), join Catherine Mott, Chair of the US Angel Capital Association, and Andrew Wilkes, Co-Chair of the National Angel Capital Organization, for a roundtable discussion followed by a social event in Erie, Pennsylvania. To RSVP, email info@angelinvestor.ca with the word “ERIE ANGEL EVENT” in the subject line! Please forgive the short notice of this invitation. Recently, we have talked about the need to help promote . No angel group alone has the capacity to fund a deal on their own – the capital needs for our growing companies is typically beyond our capacity as a single investor group. Thus, we need to reach out to other sources – like other angel groups. To do this, we need to get to know each other, build trust, and establish working relationships. There are areas where syndication and collaboration is working well – like the New England States in the U.S. where 17 angel groups meet quarterly to collaborate and share deals. As we look at Lake Erie, and strategically consider the proximity of our groups, it appears that we could begin building bridges to collaboration around the Lake Erie region from Ontario, Canada to the Northern U.S. – across NY, PA, OH. I know this is short notice, but the Canadian Consulate and a few other resources have donated some financial resources for an event on April 27, 2011 in Erie, PA, to host angel investors, angel groups, from OH, PA, NY, and Ontario, Canada to get together and begin becoming acquainted with one another. The shortest drive would be one hour for Cleveland and Buffalo and the longest would be 3 hours from Toronto, Syracuse, and Toledo. All others fall into the middle. (hotel rooms can be arranged if needed)Please see attached and below for summary of events and details. My assistant, Heather, will be sending you a formal invitation to RSVP. I just wanted to provide a primer and urge you attend. It is so important for all of us to reach out, connect, and collaborate. I do hope you will attend or send a colleague to attend.Moderated Discussion Session: each group share preferred industries, preferred terms of deal, portfolio strategy AND discuss potential process of sharing due diligence, mentoring for results, mutual indemnification for collaboration, etc.P.S. There is a chance that Thom Ruhe from the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation will be in attendance!P.S.S. I may have missed angel groups in NY and Canada and OH…..please let us know others that we should invite. Thank you much!
